Blind Corner
Ben and Naomi Gould dreamt up Blind Corner while living in an old, red builders van as they attempted to visit every surf break and wine region in Western Europe. Upon arriving home, they set to work on their small 4-hectare vineyard making wild wines in the shed. While the aim was to grow grapes and make wine as naturally as possible, the end result also increased biodiversity on their land and created a place where their children could safely crawl in the dirt, pick grapes from the vines, and play in the vegetable patch with the chickens and fruit trees.
Fast forward 15 years and Ben and Naomi now make natural wines from their 20-hectare, certified organic and biodynamic vineyard. In that time they built a winery, certified an organic bottling line, have been raising two young boys, Hunter the dog and Neko the Vineyard cat, wrangled Leroy and his flock of hippie chicks into a caravan coop, plus they’ve re-homed a million or so bees. Ben and Naomi continue to stick to their aim of working sustainably, promoting transparency, and minimising outside influences. Blind Corner wines are made using grapes and native yeasts with no additions, other than a minimal amount of sulphur. The pétillant, shiraz, fortified and qvevri wines are all sans soufre. This journey has caused them to become leaders in Margaret River in both regenerative farming and natural winemaking.
